Eva Nell Humphries Lawrence, age 93, died peacefully on Saturday, March 11 in her Santa Fe home. Eva’s positive attitude, inquisitive spirit and infectious humor lifted the spirits and tickled the funnybones of all who knew her.
Eva was born to Onais and Kate Humphries and grew up in Columbus, Mississippi with sisters Kathryn and Dot. Eva met and married her husband, George and with the births of her two children, she became a devoted and loving mother.
The family moved to Birmingham, Alabama, their home for the next thirty years. Twice George’s work took them overseas, for three years in Belgium and two years in Venezuela. Eva loved traveling to exciting new places and meeting new people. She was always busy with creative projects, from china painting to clown-making. On retiring, George and Eva moved back to their hometown Columbus where they were reunited with many cherished friends and relatives.
On the birth of her granddaughter Emma in Santa Fe, Eva moved to be nearby. She loved the beautiful landscapes and warm sunshine of New Mexico and made many new friends there. Eva is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dotty and Brice Nist of Bay County, Florida; and her son, daughter-in-law and granddaughter, George Lawrence, Michele Lis and Emma Lawrence of Santa Fe.
A celebration of Eva’s life will be held Sunday, March 26th from 2 to 4pm at Brookdale Senior Living, 640 Alta Vista Street, Santa Fe, NM 87505. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to The Food Depot at 1222-A Siler Road, Santa Fe, NM 87507.
