Esperanza “Espie” Latimer of Santa Fe, New Mexico passed away peacefully on February 08, 2019 with her husband Roman and son Michael by her side.
She was born to the late Jesus and Clara Correa, October 17, 1930 in Suwanee, New Mexico.
She attended the New Mexico School of the Deaf and graduated in 1952, following graduation she was selected along with another student to attend Gallaudet College (now University) in Washington DC as the first two students from New Mexico. She graduated in 1957 with a baccalaureate degree. In 1974 she earned her Master’s in Special Education and Rehabilitation California State University Northridge.
She was married for 56 wonderful years to the love of her life Roman and lived together in Santa Fe. Esperanza is survived by her brother Fernando, sister-in-law Edna, sisters Marta and Shirley, son Michael, daughter-in-law Nancy, grandchildren Kelsey, Emily, John-Michael, Samuel, Joshua and Nicholas.
Esperanza enjoyed traveling, she was always looking for a new adventure, from white water rafting down the Grand Canyon to zip-lining through the rain forest in Belize. Her passions included quilting and gardening. But the thing she loved the most was spending time with her grandchildren.
In keeping with her wishes, she will be cremated. There will be a celebration of life, at NM School For The Deaf, February 16, 2019.
