Erica J Hanson
On Friday, August 14, 2020, Erica J Hanson, loving wife of Carl Saueressig passed away in
Lakewood, Colorado at the age of 67.
Erica was born on October 24,1952 to Glen and Delores (Merchant) Hanson in New York
City. She moved to Urbana, Illinois at an early age, attended Yankee Ridge Elementary, and
graduated from Urbana High School in 1970. Erica graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in
English with a minor in Journalism from the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. Erica
worked as a Technical Writer for the State of Wisconsin and later for the Wisconsin Department
of Transportation. She met Carl while working at the Energy Bureau and the two were married
on September 26, 1992 in Madison.
In 1998 Erica and Carl moved to Elmwood, Wisconsin. There, Erica decided to pursue her true
passion of Journalism. She wrote articles for the Dunn County News, McCall's Magazine along
with many other publications. She authored a history book of the 1920's and was always
interested in writing mystery novels. In 2007 she earned her Master's degree in Career and
Technical Education from the University of Wisconsin-Stout. Erica was also an Adjunct
Communications Skills Instructor with Chippewa Valley Technical College and worked as an
independent consultant throughout her career.
Erica's great joy in life was traveling with Carl and spending time reading and writing along with
a nice glass of wine.
Erica is preceded in death by her father Glen and her mother Delores (Merchant) Hanson. She
is survived by her husband Carl Saueressig.
A celebration of life will be determined at a later date.
