Emily Miller

December 9, 1928 — February 9, 2019

Emily Mary Miller passed away on February 9, 2019, at the age of 90 at Denver Hospice in Denver, Colorado.

Emily was born on December 9, 1928, in Denver, Colorado to Emilie and William MacDonald. She had two brothers, Bill and Joe, and one sister, Dorothy. All preceded her in death. She was married to John Daniel Miller in June 1945 in Ft. Lupton, Colorado. John passed away in 1987.

Emily is survived by her children, John, Jr., Marlene, Wayne, Lori and Debbie; her grandchildren, Brooke, Jason, Michael, Adam, Josh, Merissa, Nathaniel, Jessyca, Kenda, Chayton, and Jody and ten great grandchildren. Her daughter Deborah Borden passed away in 2009 and her granddaughter, Veronica Leann, passed away in 2000.

Emily obtained her dental assistant certification from Emily Griffith Opportunity School and worked outside the home periodically but her main focus was raising her children and being a homemaker.

She lived in Littleton and Denver all of her life. Long rides in the mountains, gardening, baking, sewing and crafts were some of Emily's favorite activities. She loved children and dogs.

Emily was cremated per her wishes. There will be a family gathering this summer to celebrate her life.

Sleeping In The Forest

I thought the earth remembered me,

She took me back so tenderly,

arranging her dark skirts,

her pockets full of lichens and seeds.

I slept as never before,

a stone on the riverbed,

nothing between me and the white fire of the stars

but my thoughts,

and they floated light as moths among the branches

of the perfect trees.

All night I heard the small kingdoms breathing around me,

the insects, and the birds who do their work in the darkness.

All night I rose and fell, as if in water,

grappling with a luminous doom.

By morning I had vanished at least a dozen times

into something better.
