Emily Krause

March 28, 1926 — January 22, 2015

Emily Evelyn Krause, 88, died Thursday, January 22, 2015 in Denver, Colorado.

Emily was born on March 28, 1926 to Samuel and Laura Louise Moore. She grew up on a dairy farm near Albert Lea, Minnesota and graduated with a B.S. degree from the University of Minnesota in 1950. She joined the Clovia Sorority and Youth Caravan trips as a student.

She married Stanley F. Krause on June 29, 1952. Stanley and Emily enjoyed 52 years of marriage before Stanley's passing in 2004. They lived in Arlington, Virginia, where Emily initially worked as a home demonstration agent before staying home to raise their three children. She loved teaching English as a Second Language and working at a sewing and craft store as her children grew up. Eager to befriend new international residents, she was part of the Welcome to Washington program. Emily served in many areas of leadership at Christ United Methodist Church in Arlington, and remained active in the United Methodist Women at the local church, district, conference, and national meeting levels.

Stanley worked for the federal government as an agricultural economist. Emily accompanied Stanley on international assignments in Ghana, Brazil, and Sudan. Following Stanley's retirement, the Krauses moved to Fort Collins in 1984. They remained life-long learners who travelled with Elder Hostel groups, mission trip work, and other tours. Emily was an active member in the First United Methodist Church of Fort Collins, the Front Range Forum, and League of Women Voters.

Emily is survived by her children, Mark (Joyce) Krause of Johnston, Iowa, Karen (Mike) Bergman of Denver, Colorado, and Gail (Andrew) Angel of Cambridge, Ohio and six beloved grandchildren, Rachel Bergman, Sarah Bergman, Jenna Krause, Carl Krause, Elissa Krause, and Henric Krause.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, January 30 at First United Methodist Church, 1005 Stover Street, in Fort Collins. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, any memorial contributions please be made to First United Methodist Church.
