Elizabeth Mcmenamin

Elizabeth Ann Sears McMenamin, of Boulder, died on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the age of 89. She was born on March 11, 1922 in Somerset, Kentucky to James Andrew Sears and Dova Gregory Sears. She was the fourth of six children and is survived by one brother, Paul G. Sears, of Lexington, Kentucky.
Elizabeth traveled to Washington, D.C. when she was eighteen where she was hired by the Department of Labor. She met Hale McMenamin while in Washington, D.C. They married on October 31, 1942 in Los Angeles, California where Elizabeth then worked for the Department of Agriculture. She was a stay-at-home mom for the majority of years she was raising children. She was divorced in 1971. Elizabeth worked as a secretary in the Boulder area until 1993 when she retired at the age of 71.
Over the years Elizabeth enjoyed breakfast picnics in the mountains with her family, playing golf, playing bridge, bowling, and hiking. She entered numerous foot races but especially enjoyed the Bolder Boulder where she competed each year until her early eighties. She was an avid reader. She enjoyed watching sports, especially the Broncos and the Rockies. For a number of years she attended her adult sons' softball games where she was the team scorekeeper. Elizabeth loved cats and enjoyed the company of many over the years.
Elizabeth is survived by her five children: Nancy Croft Howard of Loveland; Jim McMenamin Pam of Louisville; Greg McMenamin Libby of Louisville; Carol Ferraro fiancé Tony of Littleton; and Janet Flanigan Alan of Denver. She is also survived by 10 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at The Summit at Rock Creek Clubhouse, 2855 Rock Creek Circle, Superior, CO. The memorial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Lunch will be served immediately after the service.
