Edward Whalen

January 15, 1939 — February 20, 2020

Edward Whalen of Aurora, Colorado died peacefully at home on February 20, 2020. He was
born on January 15, 1939 in Providence, RI. After graduation from Cranston High School in RI,
Ed joined the US Air Force and was stationed for four years in France. While on temporary duty
assignments, he worked at air bases throughout Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

After discharge from the Air Force in 1962, he returned home to Rhode Island, where he worked
as an aircraft electrician for the Department of the Navy. During that time, Ed met his future wife
Toni (Vaccaro) and they were married in 1966. In 1973 Ed and his family relocated to the
Denver area, and Ed began work as a System Specialist for the Federal Aviation Administration.
He worked at both Stapleton and DIA airports, retiring in 2005.

Ed was a loving husband, father and grandfather, who enjoyed spending time with his family,
traveling to visit them wherever their careers took them. He was a fun-loving dad and grandpa
who had an endless supply of "dad jokes". Ed is survived by his wife Toni, their two daughters,
Elizabeth Paniagua of Bryn Mawr, PA, and Carolyn Brown of Houston, TX, and grandsons
Theodore, Jonah and Samuel, granddaughter Zoe, and son-in-law Miguel Paniagua.
