Edward Tilford Sr, age 85, formerly of St. Paul/Minneapolis MN, passed away peacefully in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on January 2nd, 2023. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Barbara.
Ed Sr had a fulfilling career in the field of software engineering, traveling the country in various roles for Sperry Univac/Unisys, ultimately settling himself and his family in Eagan, MN, in 1978. Ed Sr lived a full and meaningful life, inspiring those around him. He was known for his fondness of saying "What's the next not logical thing to do?" which encouraged others to think creatively and outside of the box. A high point in Ed Sr's later career years was serving as an Adjunct Professor and advisor for the University of St. Thomas's Masters program.
Outside his professional life, Ed Sr had a passion for fly fishing and sculpting in wood and metal. He was also an avid benchrest marksman, competing in events across the country. It was through these hobbies that he shared his passion for the outdoors with his family, creating lifelong friendships and memories.
Ed Sr (also known as 'Poppy') is survived by his sons, Ed Jr. (Carolyn), Terry (Melissa), and Shane (Amy), seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren, all of whom will miss him deeply.
The family is grateful and wishes to extend their special thanks to Julia and the staff at the El Castillo Life Plan Community, as well as Cheryl and Joy with Amber Care Hospice in Santa Fe, New Mexico. They provided Ed Sr. with loving care during the past few years. Ed Sr. cherished the community and the friendships he made in Santa Fe.
A celebration of life service will be held in Ed Sr's honor in St Paul, Minnesota, in the spring. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
Ed Sr will be remembered for his wisdom, his humor, his storytelling, and his love for his family. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
