Dr. Eckert

August 15, 1970 — July 30, 2020

Dr. Amy Ellen Eckert, 49, of Aurora, CO, passed away suddenly on July 30 after a brief illness.

Amy was born on August 15, 1970 in South Bend, IN. She graduated Mishawaka High School in 1988. She earned her undergraduate degree in Government and International Relations, cum laude, from the University of Notre Dame in 1992. Amy earned her J.D. and Ph.D. with distinction, from the University of Denver in 1997 and 2005, respectively. She was a Political Science Professor at Metropolitan State University, Denver, until her death.

Her brilliant life will be forever cherished in the lives of her parents, Ronald and Dianne Morris, sisters Caroline (Ed) Marks and Rhonda (Woody) Miller, brother Keith (Kendra) Morris, cousin Lisa (David) Byrum, uncle John Schroeder, beloved nieces and nephews Charlotte and Claire Marks, Jordan (Kate) and Blake Miller, and Giselle and Hutchinson Morris as well as many other loving cousins.

Amy was a recognized authority and published author in international ethics, law, and just war tradition. She was a diehard Notre Dame football fan and proud alumnae. She was an active supporter of her local cat rescue. She was a lifelong advocate for change, justice, and human rights, and is proof that one person can make a difference in this world. We will miss her quick wit, kindness, and compassion. Her influence will remain in the lives of all who knew her.

Memorial services will be held at a later date in Colorado and Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Amy to the Rocky Mountain Feline Rescue at 2390 S. Delaware St., Denver.
