Doris Marie Hagen passed away Wednesday October 9, 2019. She was born in Hallstead, Kansas a small farm town of 1300 people where everyone knew everyone. She was the first in her family to go to college and graduated from Kansas State University. She moved east and spent the next 30 years raising a family and winning awards as a teacher at Somerville Elementary School in Ridgewood, New Jersey. She was always stretching the limits, earning her Masters Degree as a young mother, learning the latest education techniques throughout her career, and bringing them back to the classroom and other teachers. After retiring in Denver, she continued to "give back" with her involvement in Stephen's Ministry and P.E.O., and she returned to her Methodist faith.
All her life, she was always learning and looking for ways to contribute and give to others, building many special lifelong friendships. Even as Parkinson's disease began taking its toll, she was thrilled to help raise money for research when two of her watercolors were selected for an auction. She leaves two daughters Kelly and Beth, and four grandchildren. Her husband Steve and two sisters Judy and Helen predeceased her. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer donations to Special Olympics.
