Donald Polk

October 20, 1941 — January 22, 2016

Our hearts are heavy as we announce that Donald Polk departed our company on Friday, January 22nd. We miss him dearly.

During his years with us, Don wore many hats: Son, Husband, Father, Grandfather, Civil Servant and Friend - to name a few.

He was born in Bloomington Illinois to Donald Eugene and Lorraine Rose Polk. An only child in an other wise large family - there were 28 aunts and uncles! From an early age, he was an avid lover of sports. He played many: baseball, football, basketball, track and golf with great enthusiasm. He had such a competitive streak that he once tackled an opposing team player in an attempt to recover a loose basketball - he was benched and subsequently cut from the team. His love of sports followed him throughout his life. He was an avid golfer and a huge Denver "Donkeys" Broncos fan.

He served our country as military serviceman in the US Air Force from 1960 to 1963, where he met his wife, Jane. They were married in 1968. After his time in the Air Force, he moved to Colorado where he became a police officer. He was with the Aurora Police Department for 20 years; he retired in 1989.

Don had a mischievous and fun loving side. He was quite a prankster and frequently played harmless jokes on the people in his circle. He loved to laugh and to make others laugh. In one of his notable pranks, he put limburger cheese on one of the radiators in his high school. PeeYew! He was suspended for that prank; surely laughing both of the days he was at home.

Donald Lewis Polk was born in Bloomington, Illinois on October 20, 1941 and passed on January 22, 2016. He will be joining his father, Donald Eugene (8/28/1918 - 12/15/2004), mother, Lorraine Rose (6/17/1922 - 2/2/1997), and his wife, Jane Emma (5/2/1942 - 8/18/2000). He is survived by his four children, Catherine Jane McCarthy of Lakewood, CO, Teresa Elaine Winstead of Madisonville, KY, David Lewis Polk of Denver, CO, Michael Edward Polk of Aurora, CO, and his four grandchildren, Quentin Douglas McCarthy, Casey Elizabeth McCarthy, Thomas John Martin Winstead and Jakob Michael Alexander Winstead.

Services will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery on Monday, June 13, 2016 at 10:30 am, Staging Area "B".
