Donald Thomas Owsley, who was lovingly known as Don, was born in Walnut Creek, California on October 17, 1953 to U.S. Army Major (Ret.) Linton L. Owsley and former U.S. Army Corporal Marilyn Theresa (Scott) Owsley. Don fought an enduring bout with cancer until his passing on July 8, 2024.
Don grew up in a military family who lived in Germany, Pennsylvania, Texas, Korea, Washington, Florida, New Jersey and California. In married life Don lived in Louisiana, Utah, California and Colorado.
Don graduated from La Serna High School in Whittier, California, in 1971 and soon thereafter joined the U.S. Army, serving a total of almost 8 years, first in the Army Security Agency (Signal Corp/Intelligence) while stationed in Okinawa, Japan, then in the Army Medical/Dental Corp at Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Don loved learning. He obtained an Associates in Science degree in biology and dental science from Baylor University. He received a Bachelors in Arts in history and social science from Northwestern State University. He became certified as an image consultant with Chroma International. He pursued and received a Masters of Divinity degree with a Biblical Counseling Certificate from Westminster Seminary California, and he received a Doctorate of Ministry degree from New Geneva Theological Seminary in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Don taught sixth grade in the Louisiana public schools, served as principal of a Christian school in Poway, California, pastored three churches in California and one in Fort Collins; was an adjunct professor facilitating online classes for Colorado Christian University as well as a guest professor/lecturer at New Geneva Theological Seminary in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Don was an avid writer who authored and published three books: The Perfect Pastor…?, ThanksLiving, as well as Cultivating Kids, Enriching Parents. He was a staunch advocate for people who suffered under abusive and difficult situations.
Don's hobbies included photography, landscaping, remodeling, decorating, painting, bird watching ... and was a voracious reader.
Don is survived by his wife Lois, two daughters Kendra and Danielle, three grandsons: Chase Samarin, Jesse Page and Matthew Owsley and also his three siblings: Scott L. Owsley, Michelle L. Owsley, and Douglas L. Owsley.
