Dearest father, husband, and "Gramps," Donald Earl Beaudry, passed away on July 5 at the age of 88 in Thornton, Colorado. Born in 1929, Donald grew up and lived in Rhode Island with his large family and there met Anita, his wife of 54 years who preceded him in death earlier this year. Donald and Anita moved to San Diego, California in the early-1970's to raise their family.
Donald served his country proudly in the military his entire adult life. A veteran of the Korean War, he was on active duty in the Air Force and Navy for 13 years before taking a Civil Service position working for the Navy as a jet engine mechanic for the remainder of his 40+ year career. He was stationed at the Naval Air Stations at Quonset Point (Rhode Island) and Coronado (San Diego, CA), where his natural skill as a mechanic and attention to detail ensured the safety and readiness of the helicopter squadrons based there. He was a reliable, dedicated, hard worker and a steady provider for his family throughout his life.
Donald loved working with his hands, whether it was maintaining a large backyard vegetable garden, tackling do-it-yourself jobs around the house, or keeping a series of used cars running well past their prime. He was clever, resourceful, and able to make the most of whatever he had at hand. He enjoyed traveling by car and took his family on many long road trips all over the western U.S. through the years. He and Anita documented these travels with photos taken through the windshield while on the move - it always being most important to him that we "make good time" getting to the destination.
Donald is survived by his two sons Jim (Amber) and Tom (Lisa), and five grandchildren -- Amanda, Ryan, Steven, Katie, and Sam. He will be laid to rest at Fort Logan National Cemetery with full military honors at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 13, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, the family recommends that donations in Donald's name be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org) in loving memory of his wife, Anita.
