Dominick J. Vaccaro passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at the age of 63. Born in New Rochelle, NY, he attended Blessed Sacrament High School and Dayton University. He was well known for his sense of humor, passionate work ethic and fierce loyalty to his family. He loved sports, music and reruns of Law and Order. He had strong opinions; his retirement gift from colleagues at the Yorktown Post Office was a soapbox from which he could deliver his daily diatribes. His temper occasionally got he best of him, especially when coaching basketball, which he did throughout his life.
Blessed with a gregarious personality, he never met anyone with whom he was not ready to share a story or a kind word. He had a special place in his heart for children, and spent the last few years of his work life serving as a dedicated lunch monitor and teacher's aide, tasks that reignited his spirit even amid ever-increasing health issues.
While living in Denver in the seventies, he fell in love with the Rocky Mountains, and those memories, plus the desire to be near his children, inspired him to return to the high country in his retirement years. His ashes will be scattered in those same mountains, mere steps from heaven.
Memorial Mass, Friday, June 28, 2013, 11:00am, Most Precious Blood Catholic Church, 2250 South Harrison Street in Denver.
