David Snow

David Tunison Snow, 88, passed away comfortably in his sleep July 16 with his loving wife Rosemary at his side. Born in 1930 in Worchester, Massachusetts to parents Arthur Fay Snow and Elsie Tunison Snow.
He was proceeded in passing by sisters Shirley Lowe, Margaret Streeter and son Peter Huntley Snow. Left celebrating a long life well-lived are his elder brother Richard Snow of Chicago, daughter Karen Snow Johnson of Wheat Ridge, sons David Andrew Snow of Washington, and Michael DyNys Snow of Lakewood, and step-children Tammy Lausch and Troy Kelley of Colorado. Blessed with grandchildren Lauren Ranker, Rebecca Barajas, Gabriella Snow, Callie Lausch, Cyleena Sotelo and Leilani Lausch as well as great grandchildren Logan and Liliana Ranker , Abigail and Eva Barajas. There are also numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors, all of whom will miss him immensely.
David served his country in the U.S. Navy, first on the battleship Missouri, then on LST 1080 involved in transporting North Vietnamese civilians fleeing communist rule at the onset of the Vietnam War. He was discharged honorably in 1953 with the rank of Lieutenant Junior Grade and returned to the U.S. to continue his education. David received his undergraduate degree from Harvard, and a Masters degree and phD from the University of California, Berkeley in 1963. After several years working for Cerro de Pasco mining corporation in La Oroya, Peru, he took a geology professorship at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colorado, where he worked until 1976. In subsequent years he applied his unique skills in groundwater hydrology to research consulting tasks all over the world, including such diverse locales as India, Egypt, Hungary and Mexico, as well as being involved in Department of Energy studies for radioactive waste and mining waste depositories around the U.S.
Aside from this work, he was an active community member, consulting in the Denver area on water access issues, clean-up problems with the former Rocky Flats weapons factory, and other issues concerning environmental consequences of waste disposal. He was an active member of the Mile High Church of Religious Science, serving many years in its choir alongside his wife. Services for David will be held in the Vogt Center at the Mile High Church, where family and friends will celebrate his long and fruitful life at 3 pm. August 18, 2018.
