David Paul

October 9, 1949 — January 30, 2014

David Uri Paul 64, died on a snowy evening on Thursday January 30th, 2014 surrounded by his family after a long and courageous battle with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. David a Sabra was born to Holocaust survivors in Tiberias, Israel on October 9th, 1949. David learned to dance in the gray zone in his early years where he would take the community farm's tractor out for many unauthorized adventures. These experiences always outweighed the punishments. He loved the State of Israel and spoke of the colorful poppy fields which dotted the landscape where he played. His family immigrated to the United States in 1959 when he was ten. He grew up in Philadelphia where he struggled but mastered the English language and he soon realized his beloved yellow cars with the checkered stripes were called Taxi's. The family moved to Zanesville, Ohio in 1967. David always said it was a quick stopover in life to find the love of his life, Twila. David graduated from Ohio State University in 1972 with a BS degree in business administration. He married Twila and in 1977 with John Denver playing in the background they followed their dream to Denver, Colorado. David became a manufacturing consultant which filled his life with domestic and international travel. David with Twila by his side, for forty one years, walked the old golden lit walls of Jerusalem at night, danced the night away in Rio, crewed a 44 foot sailboat in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean, and sailed across the Hudson River with the winds generated from the twin towers. In September of 1996, David was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and thus his battle began. In 1997 he was a pioneer in stem cell transplant research and with the help of Kaiser Permanente and his oncologist, Dr. Wilson Bourg he was able to have a 15 year remission. In October 2012 the lymphoma returned and the decision was made to have another stem cell transplant in March of 2013. The cancer returned in July of 2013 and with no other options available his courageous and hard fought battle ended. David was a man of humor which won him long friendships. He was a passionate democrat who supported the less fortunate. He volunteered with the Jeffco Dems and Urban Peak. David's greatest thrill was driving the Pelosi family during the DNC in Denver in 2008. David lived as he preached, "Seize the Moment" Carpe Diem! David was preceded in death by his father, Emil Paul and mother in law, Evelyn Gibson. He is survived by his mother Lili Paul, his loving wife and lioness, Twila; Sister Rita Ed Sheehan, nephew Todd; Brother Neal Margaret Paul and niece Katie. Survived also by brother in law, Grant Sherri Gibson, nine nephews and one niece and sister in law Lori Mike Richards with nephew, Jason and nieces Candace and Kristen. He also survived by many chosen friends who became our family. There will be a private celebration of David's life at the family home.
