Our loving father, David Jay Lewis, joined his mother, father, and son on the other side of the veil at 2:35 p.m on July 10, 2016, just a few day shy of his 58th birthday, surrounded by family. David was born in North Salt Lake, Utah to Lorine and Glenn Lewis as the third child in a family of four. (Vicki, Scott, David, Juli) He came to Colorado when he was 9 year old and attended Newton Jr. High and Arapahoe High School.
Shortly after arriving in Colorado he found himself spending his spare time at a coin store in Englewood.. His love for numismatics bloomed from the early exposure to coins and led him to California where he graduated with his certification in Gemology.
While in California he grew out his naturally thick and curly hair, living the life of a fun-loving beach boy.
Cutting his hair and utterly shocking his parents he returned home only long enough to bluntly announce his plans to serve a mission for his church.
From 1977-1979 he honorably served his church in the Vancover, Canada Mission. He retained and shared his memories about living above a fish store and eating all you can eat seafood, also lamenting the missed opportunity to hunt a grizzly bear.
Following his mission he returned to the states where he attended then Ricks College in Idaho, He met JoLynne Marcum through square dancing roommates. The couple were married in the Idaho Falls L.D.S. Temple on November 21, 1980.
10 Children were born to the couple. He is survived by all but the youngest, Jared Lewis. His 18 grandchildren were the joy of his life.
Family was everything to this man who went after anything fun in life and he will be dearly missed by those who knew him.
Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2016, 10:00 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 8150 South Colorado Blvd in Centennial.
