David Johnston

David lived by his own example of helping others accomplish the best in all
circumstances. Raised in Heuvelton, NY he was a 1971 graduate of
Heuvelton CS. Later he graduated from the United States Military
Academy at West Point in 1975 and served as an Army officer. He left the
Army, though kept his personal drive for leadership and preserved the life
bond of his fellow company brothers. After earning a Masters degree from
Pennsylvania State University, he worked as a geophysicist for Mobil Oil in
Dallas and later met his wife Janet hiking in the Arkansas Ouchita
Mountains. After moving to Colorado he worked for Landmark Graphics
continuing to develop and maintain software used for petroleum
exploration. He could not leave a project undone. His family, colleagues
and friends will remember him by a deep intelligence, his quiet ways and
unique dry humor. His life was complete with a passion for the outdoors
including shoveling snow, camping, hiking, gardening, listening to classical
music, traveling to civil war battlefields, and watching sports played in the
neighborhood and professionally.
He is predeceased by his mother, Betty Johnston. He is survived by his
father, Earle Johnston of Heuvelton, NY; his loving wife, Janet Johnston; 2
brothers, Bob Johnston of Boulder, CO and Jeff Johnston of Indian Harbour
Beach, FL; 2 sisters, Barbara Fowler of Ashburn, VA and Erin Brinson of
Churchton, MD. He was uncle to 6 nieces, 5 nephews and 1 great niece
on the way.
A celebration of life service will be Wednesday, December 21, 2016 at St.
Lukes United Methodist Church of Highlands Ranch at 10:30. In lieu of
flowers donations may be made to the Center for Spiritual Engagement
Scholarship Fund in memory of David Johnston. The address is:
