David Lyle Crane was born on August 15, 1936 in Council Bluffs, Iowa to Harold and Opal Crane. He died November 17, 2021 in Littleton, CO due to complications from Covid.
Dave attended grade school through high school in Council Bluffs, IA. On April 1, 1956 he married Jeanine Kelley. They relocated to Colorado in 1974 and were married for over 65 years.
Dave was a life-long learner. After high school, he enrolled in an electronics course, then went to Iowa Western, Arapahoe Community College, earned a BA in Business from Metro State and then went on to Regis for his Master of Science in Management.
Dave retired from Schindler Elevator after 44 years. During his time with Schindler, he was the Project Manager for Woodman Tower in Omaha, the Wells Fargo building in Denver and the Ameristar Casino in Blackhawk. During his retirement, Dave enjoyed traveling, church activities, historical novels, cruising, family vacations and playing all kinds of games, especially card games. He also loved chasing little white golf balls around the course with his group of friends!
Dave was a longstanding member of Calvary Baptist Church of Denver. He and Jeanine spent many years volunteering with the youth group. Dave also served on various committees throughout the years, including acting as the head of the building committee, the columbarium committee, Theology Pub, Conversation and Creativity, sacred space renewal and the Men’s Group. He attended many work groups, the most memorable being the Kodiak AK mission trip, the Children’s Center in Warsaw, and Rainbow Acres in AZ.
As an enduring presence, Dave was actively involved with countless family activities from his grandkids’ school/sports, helping with home improvement projects, celebrating the good times as well as supporting family through the ordinary and the rough times. Creating last memories, Dave was quick to play with the kids throughout their lives, most recently seen on the floor playing with the great grandkids.
It’s hard to find words to describe a man like Dave as they always seem to fall short. There is no shortage of things to be said about his character and even more so to be felt by his spirit. To name a few, Dave was selfless, determined, playful, patient, generous and naturally inquisitive. During conversations, Dave could make one feel like the most interesting person in the world. Dave was a man that aspired to share his gifts with everyone he came across and never faltered to give a helping hand where one was needed. Dave was a role model on how to “live your best life”, not for your own sake, but for others.
Dave is survived by his wife, Jeanine, daughter Dani (Marty), daughter-in-law Cathy, grandchildren Catie (Henry), Morgan, Connor and Kyle, and great grandchildren Annabel and Sam. He is also survived by three sisters, Bonnie Moore, Barb Matzen and Sandy Adler. He was predeceased by his son Doug.
