Darlene Howbert, age 78, of Thornton passed away on Friday, October 19th after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born on July 26th, 1934, and raised in the small town of Cogswell, North Dakota. While growing up she worked in her parents restaurant and played high school basketball. After graduating from high school she attended the North Dakota State School of Science, where she met Donald Howbert, her future husband. After he returned from Korea they eventually moved to Denver, Colorado where they raised 6 children: Stan, Steve, Sheri, Scott, Shawn, and Shelly.
She enjoyed bowling and was quite proud of her trophy collection. She was also fond of going to the Thornton Recreation Center to use the treadmill, enjoyed trips to Blackhawk and Central City for low stakes gambling, and loved going on cruises. She was an avid reader and loved her Colorado Rockies.
She is survived by her brother John Betty Seelhammer, of St. Cloud MN, children Steve Renee Howbert of Thornton, CO, Sheri Mike Clifton of Peoria, AZ, Scott Dianne Howbert of Westminster, CO, Shawn Kim Howbert of Denver, CO, and Shelly Phil Stancil of Parker, CO. She is also survived by grandchildren Amanda and Christina Clifton, Melissa Zoul Howbert, Donald Howbert, Kenny and JT Stancil. She is also survived by great grandchildren Shelby and Jaden Shawn; and Peyton and Kaela Scott. She was proceeded in death by her parents, Jacob and Mary, her brothers Leonard, Ralph, and Wayne Seelhammer, her sister Mary Jane Cady, and her son Stan.
