Dan was born and grew up in Casper, Wyoming. His parents were Pete and Margaret Meyers.
He earned undergraduate degrees in Social Work from Casper College and the University of Wyoming. He earned his MSW from The University of Kansas and was an avid Jayhawks fan.
His book, The Spirit Of The Lion, chronicles his life with mental illness and his heroic efforts to manage the crippling disease of schizophrenia. His book is used today to inspire and help those with mental illness. As a respected Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Wyoming, he used innovative approaches when working with clients. He would often take groups fishing or to Wyoming Cowboy sporting events. He walked with them through their struggles because he was a peer and understood what they were experiencing. He was a living example of how to live with mental illness.
An unfortunate series of events led Dan to Littleton, CO where he spent the last 13 years living with his sister, Kathy Meyers. He converted her from a Wyoming Cowboys fan to a Jayhawks fan. She often took him fishing and he was quite lucky in finding pretty big trout, including one 21 inches long.
In Littleton he became an artist, first working with Acrylics and then Alcohol Inks. His award-winning art was displayed in various shows in the Denver area including the All St. Andrew Art show.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, one sister and one half-sister. He is survived by his sister Kathy Meyers and three half-sisters.
