Charles E. Louis, Jr. was born August 10, 1963 in Des Moines, IA to Charles E. Louis, Sr. and Marlene (Blakely) Louis, and departed this life on May 3, 2017 at 3:10 p.m. at the Denver Hospice.
Charles was raised and educated in Des Moines and graduated from Des Moines Tech High School. Charles moved to Michigan, Arizona and Missouri before settling in Colorado in 1993. While in Colorado, Charles worked at various jobs which included working with a janitorial service and UPS.
On January 15, 2006 Charles suffered a brain aneurysm and stroke, and because of his survival he considered this his second birth. After his rehabilitation, he felt God blessed him with a second chance at life and was determined to reach out to others in the stroke community however he could. In August 2010 Charles joined the National Stroke Association as a volunteer, helping man phone calls from all over the US and did until his death. He was proud to be able to make a difference and on April 17, 2017 he received the first-ever Milestone Award for his 2,000 hours of volunteerism with the Stroke Association.
Charles helped spearhead the Stroke Coalition and was VP of Community Relations & Outreach Programs and would weekly visit other stroke patients at Denver Swedish Hospital (which is where he received his initial treatment in 2006). Charles spent an enormous amount of time researching information and mentoring others and took part in support groups throughout the area. He also gave talks to groups explaining the signs and risks of stroke.
Through all his trials, Charles searched and found God and was serving him faithfully to the end. He loved the Lord and he believed the Lord loved him. Whenever asked how he was, he always answered, ‘I'm blessed' and he truly believed this. Charles is at ‘Home with the Lord, walking and running on good legs'.
Charles is Survived by his ‘mom', Marlene Washington, Aurora, CO; sister, Tamara Blakely, Lancaster, NY; brother, Kobah Washington, Sherman Oaks, CA; aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
