Charles L. Green of Mt. Juliet, TN passed peacefully on September 19th while surrounded by the love of his family. Charlie is survived by his wife, Sharon Green; their blended family of seven children: David Green (Joan), Emily Green-Cain (Van), Doug Green (Donna), Alan Green (Anne-Leslie), Sara Herrington Jones (Nolan), Marea Herrington (Dean), and Holly Herrington; their eight grandchildren: Jesa McGinty-Green, Sydney McGinty-Green, Kevin Green, Matt Green, Michelle Green, Robert Green, Richard Jones, and Patrick Jones; and his cousin, Ouida Fox. Charlie was preceded in death by his first wife, Janis S. Green, and their infant daughter, Mary Ellen Green.
Although Charlie came from humble beginnings in his small Georgia town, he was a man of exceptional character and strength who completed his college education at Emory University, served in the U.S. Navy, raised a loving family, built his own successful businesses, and traveled throughout the world.
Charlie loved and appreciated so many things: his dog, Henry Wadsworth Smallfellow; making people laugh through the sharing of jokes and puns; track and field throwing events (he was a highly decorated regional and national champion as a Senior Olympian); sports of all varieties; films, music, and puzzles; sharing gifts with his loved ones; discussing national and global affairs; all studies of history, especially anything related to World War II; a very occasional cigar; and time-honored pearls of wisdom such as “Never turn down a breath mint.”
Charlie and his family request that any memorial gifts benefit Alive Hospice and Proverbs 12:10 Animal Rescue.
