Carlos Pacheco

Reverend Deacon Carlos Felix Pacheco was born in Mora, New Mexico on December 31, 1922. He left us on the morning of August 26, 2016, at the age of 93 and is in heaven with his loving wife Eva.  One of thirteen children, Carlos was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and the patriarch of the Pacheco family.
Carlos was a World War II veteran, volunteering for the US Navy shortly after Pearl Harbor. He served honorably on the USS Mansfield in the Pacific theater.
He led a fulfilling and extraordinary life. He fell in love and married Eva Montaño on June 24, 1950, and they shared their lives together for 57 years until the time of her passing.  Carlos continued to share his love with her beyond space and time and always felt her presence surrounding him.
He served as a federal postal worker, and retired to become one of the first Catholic deacons in the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.  He worked for many years, along with Eva, in the Archdiocese, helping the community and spreading faith and compassion throughout Santa Fe.
Carlos was an amazingly creative and magical human being who brought light and laughter to all who knew him. He taught his children and grandchildren how to play poker, billiards, ride a bike, swim, fish, horseback ride, play marbles, drive, climb trees and  how to dream about adventures. Always the best dance partner at any party, he instilled in his family an appreciation of the arts, dance and the music of New Mexico. He would dress up in costumes and tell stories of coyotes and bears, of cowboys and wranglers, while strumming an out of tune guitar. He was an avid painter, despite his failing eyesight, and delighted everyone with his whimsical illustrations.
His uncanny ability to connect with other people has left him many friends and admirers with diverse backgrounds such as artists, singers, photographers, musicians, journalists, wanderers and war heroes. Carlos loved to walk and talk, approaching people often ignored by others and making them feel comfortable, loved, and significant, swapping stories and sharing a rare camaraderie. He built little communities all around him of people who truly loved him.
At the time of his passing, Carlos lived in Santa Fe with his son, Carlos A. Pacheco, and his loving dog, Ollĩn. In addition to his son, Carlos has three daughters, Yolanda, Michelle, and Diana, one son-in-law, seven grandchildren, and one great-grandson, who continue to be touched by his unconditional love, support and courage.
The family also wishes to acknowledge and send heartfelt thanks and gratitude to an amazing group of dedicated people who cared for Carlos in his later days:  Ambercare Hospice and Millie, Roberto, Lupe, and Estella.
A rosary will be held Wednesday, August 31st at 7:oo pm at Our Lady of Guadalupe in Santa Fe.  A Memorial Mass will be held on Thursday, September 1st at 12:00 noon at Our Lady of Guadalupe, 417 Agua Fria Street, Santa Fe, NM  87501, followed by a Graveside Service at 3:00 pm at Santa Fe National Cemetery 501 North Guadalupe Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico 87501.
If you wish to honor Carlos the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer’s organization or Capital High School AVID 12  in lieu of flowers and/or plant a tree in our father's name.
