Jerry Carl Hampton 3/2/40 - 3/23/19
Jerry died on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at his home in Centennial, CO, surrounded by family. He was born in Corinth, Mississippi, on March 2, 1940. He was an orphan at 5 and went on to recognition as an ‘All American' athlete upon his graduation from the University of Houston. He maintained his competitive spirit throughout his life and was driven to be the best at everything he attempted. His entrepreneurial nature served him well throughout his life, always being his own boss. He was part of the early Denver bar scene and owned four bars (the Flamingo, the Foxhole, the Two Mule Inn and Live on Broadway).
He made his journey through life with his longtime love and wife of 35 years, Patricia Hampton. Jerry had a love of all animals, treating them with kindness and deference. From his beloved dog, Rosita, who went with him everywhere, to his Appaloosa horses and critters on two farms, to the bunnies that gathered at his porch for fresh apples. He seemed more at ease in the company of animals than with people at times.
He loved the outdoors and had a green thumb; his gardens always reflected time and care while getting his hands dirty. He liked to think that he played a mean game of golf, often dragging Pat along.
Jerry is survived by his wife Patricia, son, Jeff, and daughter, Jennifer (Jerry), grandchildren, Ashley, Madeline, and Henry, his sisters, Minnie (David), Leda Gail, Peggy (Ronnie), Nancy (Mark), Pat, Joyce, and his brothers, Larry (Nancy), Fred, Dennis (Margie), and Rex. He is preceded in death by his sons, Norman and Carl, and Trubie.
