Bruce Powell

Bruce Powell, 68, died unexpectedly at his home in Centennial, CO on April 29, 2016. He was born June 26, 1947 in Concordia, KS. Bruce was an adjunct professor of economics at the Community College of Aurora for the past seven years.

Bruce graduated from Valley Center High School, Valley Center, KS, in 1965. He earned a BS in Education at Emporia State University, Emporia, KS, and then entered the U.S. Navy. He proudly served as a Naval Aviator and completed over 200 aircraft carrier landings. After leaving the service, he began a successful career in corporate sales in Wichita, Detroit, Cupertino, and Denver. While in Detroit he earned an MBA at the University of Detroit.

Bruce was a devoted father, well-liked teacher, music lover, avid sports fan, and golf enthusiast. He lovingly adopted numerous rescue dogs and supported many wildlife and domestic animal nonprofits. Bruce enjoyed caring for his dogs and having their help gardening and watching college football on TV. He played bass guitar in several rock ‘n' roll bands in high school and college and more recently in Denver.

Bruce is survived by his son John of Centennial, his sister Cindy Podszus of Lacey, WA, and two nieces: Becky Podszus of Olympia, WA, and Debbie Podszus-Tomczak of Duisburg, Germany. He was preceded in death by his parents, Burnace and Jeannie (Wilson) Powell, of Marion, KS.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM Tuesday, May 17, 2016 at the Parkview United Church of Christ, 12444 E. Parkview Drive, Aurora, CO 80011. Interment will be at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver at a later date.
