Bret Brown

July 18, 1959 — July 14, 2016

Bret was born on July 18, 1959 at Porter Hospital in Denver, Colorado to the parents of Carroll and Arlene Brown.

He was a 1977 graduate of Jefferson High School and in 1978 he enlisted in the U.S. Army where he spent several years in Germany as a motor transport driver escorting many Generals and Colonels to their destinations. While in the Army he received achievement awards for overseas service, rifle marksman and good conduct. During his time in the service he also became a graphics art specialist. He received an honorable discharge in 1984.

In March of 1985 he became an employee of the United States Postal Service until his retirement in May of 2016. For the majority of his years here he was an active APWU member and shop steward. He took great pride in the work he did with them.

He married Teresa Gordon in July, 1990. Within that marriage they had two children; a daughter and a son. Bret was the best father anyone could ask for and was always there for his family.

Inquisitive by nature, Bret was extremely knowledgeable in just about every category of life. He was an avid reader and easily retained the contents. This comprehension was an asset to his intelligence and knowledge of many topics. His favorite topic was always history. He felt it was crucial to learn from the past so that history does not continue to repeat itself, especially in terms of corruption and suffering. Bret was passionate about politics as well as the important role that unions play within the workplace. He spent much of his life personally involved to make a difference in the causes he believed in.

Family was always very important to Bret. This mixed with his desire to document life led him to spend a great deal of time fleshing out a family tree over the years. He was very proud of the information he was able to gather thanks to large amounts of time spent on research and discussion with relatives.

Bret excelled at observation and documentation. Whether through his artwork, the stories he told, or the pictures and videos he took over the years; he had the ability to capture perfect moments and small details within the world around him with unmatched beauty. This ability is a unique treasure that will be tremendously missed by those whose lives he touched.

He is survived by his daughter Ashley and son Beau, mother Arlene Christie, sister Brenda (Richard) Ferrari, brother Bart (Carla) Brown and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed by all who loved him. He is preceded in death by his father Carroll.
