Blanche Elizabeth Wens was born on November 26, 1927 in Melbeta, NE to parents George and Emma Hall. She had a younger brother, Gilbert and she was raised on a farm in Melbeta. She moved to Denver, Co after high school with her mother.
While attending Central Assembly Church now Calvary Temple in Denver in the early 1950's, she met her husband to be, Donald Wens while attending a Sunday School Visitation. They were wed one year later in Uncle Frank's living room. They had firstborn daughter, Mary Ruth Wens and 2 years later twin boys, Ronny and Donny Wens. Blanche was a homemaker and also worked at Calvary Temple Church throughout her life. Their family lived in Englewood and Littleton over the years while Don worked at Gates Rubber Company. Blanche and Don were married for over 50 years. Both served faithfully in their church and made many friends and adopted family from their church and neighborhood.
A couple of years before Don's death, Don and Blanche were able to meet Nate, their grandson and his family. In her last years of life, Blanche enjoyed attending church at God's New Beginnings Fellowship with Nate's family, watching her great granddaughter play and visits with her daughter Mary Ruth. The last 3 years of her life she was able to spend at Libby Bortz Assisted Living and Colorado Assisted Living. She was also cared for by Senior Companions, Michelle Rushing and Donna Gray, who both became her close friends. Her last year and a half Gentiva Hospice helped care for her. Blanche Wens died at the age of 86 on Saturday, February 15th 2014.
Her mother Emma, husband Don, and son Ronald precede her in death. She is survived by her daughter Mary Ruth Wens, son Donald Wens, stepdaughter Roberta Gustafson, grandson Nate Gustafson Jen, great granddaughter Annabelle Gustafson, brother Gilbert, sister in law Mary Bohlender Jay and brother in law Tom Collins and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Blanche will be held on Monday, February 24th at 10:30AM at the Horan and McConaty Chapel at 1091 S. Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80246.
Going through her belongings, Nate found her testimony she had typed. At the end of her story, she wrote the following, "I'm singing on my way because Jesus is mine and I am His. Therefore, I'll always walk close beside Him till in Heaven someday I shall dwell."
