Betty Westing

Betty Westing, 90, of Centennial, CO passed away July 9, 2017 at Someren Glen Retirement Community. Betty was born in Bangor, Michigan June 1, 1927 to Harry and Elsie Wakeman, the youngest of four daughters. She graduated from Wheaton College (IL) in 1949 with a B.A. in Elementary Education. Betty also attended Moody Bible Institute where she met and subsequently married (the late) Harold Westing August 17, 1951. She was an elementary school teacher for a short time but used her teaching skills primarily to teach God's Word to others of all ages. She was a teaching leader in the early years of M.O.P.'s (Mothers of Preschoolers) at Trinity Baptist Church, Wheat Ridge and at Foothills Fellowship. For years she took an active role in assisting her husband, a professor at Denver Seminary, in his ministry with students and their spouses. Before they moved to Colorado in 1976 they served together in five churches in Oregon and one in Illinois. Harold and Betty were very much a team in ministry with complementary temperaments and gifts. Betty had a sincere interest in others as well as a great sense of humor and a contagious laugh.

She will be deeply missed by her three children: Deborah Westing Martin (Bruce) of Muscatine, IA; Thomas Westing of Littleton, CO; and Cindy Westing of Denver, CO. She is also survived by 5 grandchildren: Corrie Westing (Jason) of Chicago, IL; Adrienne (Martin) Grimes (Nicolas) of Columbus, OH; Rachel Westing of Denver, CO; Andrew Westing (Whitney) of Albuquerque, NM; Stefanie (Martin) Livingston (David) of Coralville, IA and 5 great grandchildren.

Services will be on August 11, 2017 at 2:00 pm at Mission Hills Church 620 Southpark Dr., Littleton, CO 80120.
