Benito “Benny” Diaz, 70, died Thursday, April 20, 2017 at his home in Cubero, NM. He suffered & lost his battle to lung disease.
He leaves his sons, Benny Diaz, Jr. and Bobby Wilcox; his daughter Rene Chavez; brothers and their spouses, Tony (Chico) & Lucy Diaz, Edward & Laura Diaz, Victor & Beverly Diaz, Ruben & Sergio Diaz; his sisters and their spouses, Christina & Charlie Lopez, Marylou & Roy Longoria, Linda Rael & fiancé, George Griego, and Sarah & Sam Wittich; family friend, Mario Soto; 10 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild.
Diaz was preceded in death by his daughter, Francine Diaz; parents Antonio G Diaz and Adelina Baca Diaz; brother, Freddie Diaz; nephew, Matthew Diaz.
He lived in Cubero and San Fidel, NM for most of his adult life. He was born in Los Angeles, CA on April 6, 1947. Benny worked various jobs throughout his life from mining, drilling, Volunteer Firefighter in Cubero, Wildfire Fire Fighter for the Forest Service, and a bus driver.
He enjoyed reading his bible, planting, and caring for his trees and dogs. Benny had many talents to include pottery and kachina doll making, and baking bread. He also had a skill of archery and being a mechanic. In his younger years he loved to ride motorcycles and play his guitar.
Family and friends are invited to attend the Rosary on Saturday, May 6, 2017 at 9:30 am at Our Lady of Light in Cubero, NM. Mass will begin at 10 o’clock and the burial will follow at the Cubero Community Cemetery.
