Aviguel (Gail) Galvan passed away peacefully in her home while listening to Sinatra on October 6, 2018.  Gail was born on April 10, 1923 in El Paso, Texas where she resided for most of her life.  She spent the last 4 years with her daughter, Mary, in Santa Fe, NM.  Gail was a graduate of Bowie High School and Ohio State University.  During her 43 years as a nurse anesthetist she was present for the birth of hundreds of children and blessed to work with many great doctors and nurses along the way at Hotel Dieu, South El Paso Maternity Hospital and Providence Memorial Hospital where she practiced here in El Paso.

Gail was an avid sports enthusiast and spent the better part of her last years watching every sport with a ball involved: basketball, soccer, baseball, but especially football.  She dearly loved her Ohio Buckeyes and her Dallas Cowboys.

Gail is preceded in death by her loving husband Dr. Jose Galvan, her daughters Gina Galvan and Evangelina Galvan Webel.  She is survived by her daughter Mary Carol Nunez and her husband Ruben (Santa Fe, NM), her granddaughter Sarah A. Ballew and her husband Dustin, her great grandchildren Jackson, Mackenna, Brooklyn and Beau Ballew (San Antonio, Texas).  She is also survived by her grandson Stephen Soto and his wife Rachel, great grandchildren Jasmine, Stephen Jr, and Sebastian Soto (El Paso, Texas).  Gail is further survived by two sisters (Elizabeth and Celia) and brother (Beto) along with many nieces and nephews.

Gail was a trailblazer in life – she accomplished things very few women of her generation even dared to imagine. Gail came from humble beginnings and through faith, tremendous work ethic, and dedication to big dreams she achieved so much. Gail loved her family, thrived in her professional career, traveled the world and inspired many women along the way.  She is loved and will be missed by many.  After a full life of independence and hard work, God has called you home… Rest in peace Mom.
