Arlen Dale Johnson, 84, of Lakewood, Colorado, peacefully passed away on December 18, 2022, in his home surrounded by family.
Arlen Dale Johnson was born on March 7, 1938, to Oscar and Helen Johnson in Burt, Iowa. After his high school graduation in 1956, he attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. Upon graduation he joined the United States Air Force where he became an areomedical evacuation pilot, flying the C130. After his service in the Air Force, he pursued a career in sales. This career brought him to Colorado in 1974 where he began working in the home mortgage business. He was a successful mortgage broker owning his own company.
Arlen Dale Johnson had many endearing nicknames. To many in his younger years, he was known as Cookie, Cook, Uncle Cook, Uncle Arnie, and ADale. In his adult life he was known, by most, as Dale. Grandchildren and great grandchildren called him Grandpa, Buddy, and Papa. He was truly loved.
In High School Dale was a star baseball player. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, especially after moving to Colorado. He loved to travel to warmer climates to escape some of the Colorado winter months. In his retirement years he focused on his yard, and his backyard vegetable and fruit garden. He blessed many friends and family with his bounty. He loved to cook and entertain. Most fond memories are the warm summer afternoons and evenings in his beautiful yard filled with friends and family enjoying his amazing food and homemade ice cream. Dale will be greatly missed, and his wonderful smile and kind spirit will be always remembered.
Dale is survived by his wife Nancy Johnson, his children Lisa (Tim) Haggas, Stephen (Jodi) Johnson, step-children, Kristine Van Skiver (Jeff Martinez,) Jennie (Jeremy) Miller; 8 grandchildren, Gabby, Judy (Brian), Steven, Jade, Maddie, Emma, Kaylee and Bryce; 7 great grandchildren, Jase, Wyatt, Graysin, Sterling, Scarlette, Archer, and Arlo; his sister JoAnn, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents Oscar and Helen Johnson, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and his first wife, Barbara Baker Johnson.
A Celebration of Life will be held honoring Dale on April 15, 2023, in Lakewood, Colorado. Anyone wishing to attend, please contact the family at nancyj214@comcast.net for details. This will be a casual get together and not be a formal service. It will not available for participation online.
