On the evening of March 16, 2022, Angela passed away at home, comforted by her children. Angela was 86 years old.
The oldest of two children, Angela was born in Paterson, New Jersey and raised in Chicago, Illinois.
Angela graduated from Hyde Park High School and had worked in businesses including Chicago Title and Trust; Sears, Roebuck and Company; and JAX Gifts.
Happiest at home with family, she was a natural at working with people and excelled as a salesperson, with 20 years in retail sales and even longer with the family business. To quote her, the best years of her life “were those raising her kids in a loving home.” Along with that, she enjoyed everything domestic: having homemade meals ready at 5 o’clock, baking, sewing, knitting, decorating, arts and crafts, hosting house parties, even ironing, and anything else to provide for a happy family, whether they were in her home or not. Outside the home, she enhanced her life with bicycling, brisk walks, water aerobics, enjoying the company of friends, theater and travel.
Angela is survived by her daughter, Christie; son, Thom, son-in-law, James Trago, brother, Philip Bonaparte; and many fond nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her loving husband of 61 years, John C. “Jack” Schmitt, her parents Thomas (formerly Joseph LaConte) and Margaret (née Pagliaro) Bonaparte, and half-brothers Raymond, Donald, and Thomas LaConte. Angela was the daughter-in-law of John and Christine (née Manz) Schmitt, and the sister-in-law of Edward and Josephine (née Magda) Schmitt, John and Jeanette (née Schmitt) Scudder, Joan Schmitt, Agnes (née Vlk) Bonaparte, and was close to many dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.
