Lakewood - Alfred Gilbert Duran, Sr. 79 years young, died Monday April 17, after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.
Alfred leaves behind his wife, Sharon Duran, sons Al Duran, Jr. and Aaron Duran, daughter Janice (Duran) Silva, daughters-in-law Mea Duran and Judy Duran, son-in-law Russell Silva, grandchildren: Angeleen Duran, Lexie (Duran) Kerr, Lauren Duran, Anthony Duran, Molly Duran, AJ Duran, and two great-grandchildren: Francesca Kerr and Benjamin Kerr.
Alfred was known best as a husband, uncle, dad, cousin and papa. He was born in Tercio, CO, later grew up in Starkville, and soon after moved to Denver. At the age of 24, Alfred wed Carol Porter, who gave him three wonderful children. Carol later died of breast cancer at the age of 26. Fast forward a few years down the road, and Alfred met and wed Sharon Jensen. They were happily married for the past 45 years. Sharon was his champion at his side through his twelve year battle with Parkinson's disease.
Alfred was the biggest sports fan in town. Although, he would never miss the chance to watch a Rockies game or check the highlights of the Nuggets game, the Denver Broncos were his number one team. Some would say the highlight of his super-fan career was road tripping across the country with his sons and nephew Kenny Abeyta to see the Denver Broncos win Super Bowl XXXII.
Alfred spent his Friday mornings drinking coffee with Gil Lovato and Tony Rosales to catch up on the weekly gossip. His weekends were spent cheering on his grandchildren at their athletic events and being their number one fan.
Rosary service will be held Thursday April 20, 2017 at 7pm, followed by a funeral Mass on Friday April 21, 2017 at 10 am. Both services will be at St. Jude Catholic Church in Lakewood, CO.
