Dr. Alden T. Schmidt, a retired urologist and 43-year Colorado resident, died Monday, August 6, 2018 after a short Illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, four children and six grandchildren. Schmidt, 77 was born Feb. 7, 1941 in Indiana. He attended Beloit College, where he earned a bachelor's degree in biology in 1963. He attended medical school at Indiana University, did his internship in South Bend, Indiana in 1967, served two years in the Navy in Charleston, South Carolina, and completed his urology residency at Georgetown University in 1975. He joined a urology practice in Englewood in 1975, which he maintained until his retirement in 2001. He was beloved by the many patients whose lives he impacted as well as colleagues with whom he worked. In the later years of his medical career, Schmidt was honored to serve as president of the medical staff at Littleton Hospital. Schmidt spent many weekends in the Colorado mountains at the family cabin in South Park or skiing in Summit County. He enjoyed boating, camping, fishing and not quite enough golf. He is survived by his wife, Karen, children, Joanna Bean; Gregory (wife Jolie); Teresa McAlister (husband Jeff); and Kristen Snowden (Husband Marc); grandchildren Emma Bean, Abigail Bean, Zachary Schmidt, Braden Schmidt, Josh McAlister, Tarah McAlister, Brother Walter Schmidt (wife Betty) and sister Louise Baratz (husband Elliot). Services will be held at 11am on Monday, August 13th at 11am at Columbine United Church 6375 S. Platte Canyon Rd. in Littleton. In Lieu of flowers, Schmidt requests donations to the World Wildlife Fund and the Nature Conservancy.
