Albert "Al" Kidd, 61 of Central City; born on September 23, 1951 in Austin, Texas to Elzie and Lillian Kidd, passed away on March 15, 2013 in Centennial, Colorado.
Sergeant Albert Taylor Kidd lost his short battle with cancer on March 15, 2013. Sergeant Kidd fought his cancer with the same energy, determination and bravery that he displayed throughout his life and his police career. Sergeant Kidd served in the United States Air Force from 1970 until 1973 at the Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, achieving the rank of Sergeant before he was honorably discharged. Al continued his association with the United States Air Force Reserve as a Staff Sergeant from 1985 until 1993.
After his discharge from active duty with the United States Air Force, Al joined the Aurora Police Department, achieving the rank of Senior Police Officer during a 20-year career from 1973 until 1993. Kidd worked assignments including patrol, field training, traffic accident investigations and vice and narcotics investigations. Kidd's commitment to the youth in the Aurora community was particularly evident with his management of the Explorer Post, an organization that provides real law enforcement experiences and training for young adults interested in pursuing a law enforcement career.
When Al retired from the Aurora Police Department, he joined the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office where he served as a Deputy Sheriff from 1993 until 2002. During his career with the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, Al worked assignments in detentions, patrol and traffic investigations. As a Deputy Sheriff, Kidd became a driving instructor and an experienced traffic investigator. Once again, Kidd volunteered considerable time and energy to managing the Sheriff's Office Explorer Post for six years.
Al joined the Central City Police Department in October 2005 where he served until his death. In January 2012 Kidd was appointed to the position of Police Sergeant.
Al Kidd is survived by two daughters, Danielle VonFeldt and Nicole Gibbons; two sons, Troy Kidd and Ryan Kidd; three grandchildren, Trenton, Tatumn and Curran; five sisters; and two brothers.
