Throughout the years, he enjoyed being involved in leather crafting, woodworking, food preservation (canning and drying), master gardeners’ groups in both Illinois and most recently in Colorado where he resided for the past 8 years.

Alan was an adventurer at heart, from enjoying a good fishing excursion, traveling to Hawaii and Jamaica, and his Mission trips to Germany, Guatemala, and Haiti. Also, during his motorcycle trips where he traversed the country seeing major attractions from the Mackinac Bridge in Upper Peninsula Michigan, Salt Lake City and Arches Nation Park in Utah, Mount Rushmore in South Dakota, Niagara Falls in New York, Old Faithful at Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, tens of thousands of miles around the mountains of Colorado crisscrossing the state many times over and several other fascinating sites across the country (covering 30 of the lower 48 states). He was always on a quest for knowledge. From watching YouTube videos, learning different languages, achieving a college degree after retirement, reading and share articles on ingredients for cooking healthy meals, healing ailments, retirement, and many other riveting articles he would find and share. He made those around him laugh with is quick wit and silly personality. Alan always found a way to laugh and enjoy life to the fullest.
